1975 Fender Twin Reverb + 2014 Leeds Super Lead 2x12

1975 Fender Twin Reverb. Features include 4 6L6GT power tubes in a Fixed Biased, push-pull Class AB configuration to produce 100 Wrms.  The amp needed a complete re-working of the cabinet (new black tolex, silver-blue grille cloth, faceplate, caster wheels), new speakers, tubes, and caps. The 6 pre-amp tubes are used to create a 3-channel on-stage powerhouse with a clean channel signal path re-wired as a stock Blackface '63 AB736, and the 2 crunch channels have been "Marshalled" providing all-tube boutique saturation.  Also several improvements to the power supply.  This amplifier was severely damaged and missing components when acquired, therefore a good candidate for "Frankenstein-ing".  Dubbed the  "Evil Silver Twin", the mods include:

  • Modified to 2 separate stand-by switches for each power tube pair
  • Added low-power switch in the form of Triode-Pentode switch
  • Re-tubed all power tubes to Sovtek 6L6GC-588

 1980s Marshall JCM800 2205 + 1960A 4x12 + 2005 Gibson Firebird Studio

1980s Marshall JCM800 2205 + 1960A Cabinet.  Features include 2 EL-34 power tubes in a Fixed Biased, push-pull Class AB configuration to produce 50 Wrms.  The four 12" Celestion G12T-75 speakers in the 1960A cabinet are a perfect compliment for the tone of the head.  It is the dual channel Marshall, with the Clean channel being almost identical to the "Plexi" circuit, and the Lead channel having some amazing 80's sounding distortion.  After one of the original power tubes blew...we suggested some very minor modifications to the power supply circuit:

  • Re-tubed both power tubes to Winged-C EL-34
  • Added series 10 Ohm flame-proof resistors for bias adjust measurement

2005 Gibson Firebird Studio. Features include ceramic T90/T98 humbucking pickups, rosewood fretboard, faded cherry finish, and dot inlays.  The pickups are high output and dirty when strummed hard.

1971 Traynor Guitar Mate YGM-3 + 2005 Fender American Deluxe Telecaster

1971 Traynor Guitar Mate YGM-3.  Features include 2 EL-84 power tubes in a Fixed Biased, push-pull Class AB configuration to produce 22 Wrms.  It also has a deep Reverb and wavy Vibrato.  A 12" Marsland AlNiCo speaker completes the combo.  This amp is restored to stock (reusing the Mullard "Mustard" capacitors), with a few enhancements.  All mods are non-intrusive to the stock circuit.  Mainly, a master volume and half-power switch was added so the preamp could be cranked while controlling volume at the power stage.  Bright switch and Resonance switch (added to feedback loop) was added to give tonal options.  With these mods, the amp produces creamy thick distortion or sparkling chime in clean stock mode:

  • Added low-power switch in the form of Triode-Pentode switch
  • Added "Bright" pull switch - enable (stock) or disable
  • Added "Resonance" pull switch - off (stock) or resonance
  • Added crossline Master Volume
  • Replaced missing reverb tank with new Accutronics reverb tank
  • Replaced missing name plate with replica
  • Replaced power tube sockets
  • Replaced mis-matched 6BQ5 power tubes with new JJ EL-84's

 1965 Ampeg Reverberocket R-12-R-B + 2008 Rickenbacker Mapleglo 360-12

1965 Ampeg Reverberocket R-12-R-B.  Jangle Fever!  Features include 6SN7/6SL7 octal preamp tubes, and a pair of 7591 power tubes in a Cathode Biased, push-pull Class AB configuration to produce 25 Wrms.  It also has a sweet Reverb and dreamy Vibrato.  A 12" Jensen Ceramic speaker completes the combo.  The amp cabinet was in great shape, however, the 12" Jensen speaker needed repair.  It could not be repaired to stock, so a new 12" Jensen C12R does the job.  Also, the output transformer ("Merit") did not look stock and was disconnected.  We measured the plate-to-plate impedance to be approximately 8K Ohms so we re-used it.  This amp has an amazing clean sound that mates well with single coil pickups. We found this in the music store dumpster, shame on them... since keeping the amp stock was not an option, we made several customizations, while staying close to the stock signal path.  Someday if we can scavenge a stock output transformer, we will return it to the stock circuit, for now... Mods include:

  • Added choke to lower noise floor of power supply
  • Modified filament power supply to well filtered 6.3VDC
  • Modified power supply to individually filter (decouple) each preamp section
  • Added saturation circuit and control
  • Added switchable extra gain preamp stage
  • Added switchable cathode bypass capacitor in preamp for extra gain
  • Added "Bright" switch
  • Added Master Volume
  • Replaced worn power cord

2008 Rickenbacker Mapleglo 360-12. Features include high gain pickups, trapezoid inlays, and white binding on the neck. Very tricky to get the set up in working order, Ric necks need to be straight to get the intonation correct... It is still a bitch to play.

1950s Supro S6066 + 2014 Leeds Janglebox 2x12/10 + 1954 Gretch DuoJet

1950s Supro S6066.  Features include single 6V6GT power tube in a Cathode Biased, Class A configuration to produce 6 Wrms.  A 8" Jensen AlNiCo speaker completes the combo...the stock speaker sounded a bit tinny, so use the amp to drive the lower cabinet.  This amp has the original RCA tubes and still sounds great...clean at low volume, and smooth tube distortion when turned up.  Also, when this amp drives a worthy cabinet, produces a sweet sound. Mods include:
  • Added speaker jack to drive external cabinets
  • Added IEC-320 power connector to replace worn power cord

2014 Leeds Janglebox 2x12/10.  Construction materials include 3/4" 11-ply Birch, with all butt joints internally reinforced with 1x2 and 2x2 hardwood.  The soundboard has a cross braces for reinforcement.  Features include:

  • 25W 10" Jensen Ceramic C10R
  • 25W 12" Jensen Ceramic C12R
  • 4-way Rotary Switch for load selection
    • Mode 1: 50W, 16 OHM, both drivers in series
    • Mode 2: 25W, 8 OHM, 12" driver
    • Mode 3: 25W, 8 OHM, 10" driver
    • Mode 4: 50W, 4 OHM, both drivers in parallel
  • Blonde Tolex with Oxblood grille
  • Open back

1954 Gretch DuoJet.  Features include cream colored binding on body, headstock, and neck, clear urethane finish, DeArmond pickups.  The bridge is not the stock Gretch roller bridge, nor is the finish.

1950 Gibson Gibsonnette + 1984 Gibson Les Paul Studio Custom

1950 Gibson Gibsonnette.  Features include 2 6V6GT power tubes in a Cathode Biased, parallel Class A configuration to produce 12 Wrms.  A 10" Jensen AlNiCo speaker completes the combo.  The amp needed a complete re-working of the cabinet (new blonde tolex and oxblood grille cloth), and a re-coning of the 10" Jensen speaker.  Since keeping the amp stock was not an option, we made several customizations, while keeping the option to preserve the stock signal path.  Dubbed the "Son", mods include:

  • Added choke to lower the noise of power supply
  • Modified filament power supply to well filtered 6.3VDC
  • Added low-power switch in the form of Triode-Pentode switch
  • Added voicing switch to offer 3 options ("stock", "British", "Thick")
  • Replaced worn power cord

This amp screams when cranked up, all of the smooth tube distortion to harmonic overdrive one could ask for.

1984 Gibson Les Paul Studio Custom. Features include cream colored binding on body and neck, tobacco sunburst finish, and the famed PAF pickups.  The pickups do not have as hot of an output as the newer ceramic T90/T98 pickups, but the tone is incredible.

1970s Fender Studio Bass Amp + 1970's Gibson SD450 Bass

1970s Fender Studio Bass.  Features include 6 6L6GT power tubes in a Fixed Biased, push-pull Class AB configuration to produce 180 Wrms.  A 15" Eminence AlNiCo speaker completes the combo.  The amp needed caster wheels (it is an anchor), a new grille frame, however the grille cloth is original as is the rest of the cabinet. In addition to the traditional Fender tone stack circuit (Treble-Mid-Bass), it has an all-tube 5-band graphic equalizer, which allows any bass to be EQ'd to cut through any mix.  While refurbishing, we made several customizations to the power supply, while preserving the stock signal path.  It is very low noise (thanks to the mods).  This exceptionally voiced amp is excellent for recording and rehearsal, however being 180 Wrms, would need a bit of help from the PA at large scale live gigs. Mods include:

  • Re-tubed all power tubes to Winged-C 6L6GC
  • Re-tubed all preamp tubes with GE NOS tubes
  • Replaced all electrolytic capacitors in power supply
  • Replaced all power resistors in power supply
  • Replaced all tube anode load resistors in preamp
  • Modified filament power supply to well filtered 6.3VDC
  • Added individual bias adjust potentiometer for each power tube
  • Added series 10 Ohm flame-proof resistors for bias adjust measurement
  • Replaced worn power cord

This amp has extreme clarity and tone flexibility, and at full volume, is extremely clean.

1970s Gibson SD450.  This bass is super quiet (with it's epoxy sealed superhumbucker pickups), and has a thick tone.  It is quite worn, but all stock.
